ANDREI MAKAREVICH was born in 1953 in Moscow. Graduated from Moscow Architecture Institute. Lives and works in Moscow. Poet, composer, musician, writer, TV host, creator of the band "Time Machine" and it's front man. Began to show his artwork 1989. The artist's works are in museums and private collections around the world.

Andrei Makarevich is not just an artist, poet or musician, he is a Russian cultural phenomenon who blazed a trail through two historical epochs, from the Soviet 1970s through to the present day. He created the Rock band "Mashina Vremeni" ("Time Machine") in 1970, which spawned the development of Rock Music in the Soviet Union. His songs inspired the generation that helped to dismantle the Soviet Communist system of government and went on to create the new society of present day Russia. For most people, he is a Renaissance man who paved the way for many of the country's most important cultural changes, and who continues to create in the fields of literature, art, music and television. Just as it's impossible to map out the correct path for developing a new culture, it's difficult to judge such a major personality as Andrei Makarevich.

His two dimensional art - watercolors and mixed media renderings of animals are executed in a manner that mixes Asian sensibility with Russian folklore and icon imagery. As the artist recollects, his father, an architect with a passion for drawing, introduced him to some techniques that Andrei build upon in his monotypes and works on paper using interplay of positive and negative space, as the drawing itself becomes a positive with the surrounding space left to the chance of abstraction. His fluid and unconstrained brushstrokes echo the teaching of the Chinese school of painting with their emphasis on the discovery of the essence of things. While the portraits of women reflect the spirituality of icon images, the drawings of fish show his ability as a keen draftsman and, at the same time, bring out characteristics of creatures with individuality and human spirit reminiscent of the works of 19th century Russian Fairy Tale illustrators.

Andrei Makarevich as an artist has been represented in Russia and England by "Alla Bulyanskaya Gallery", in the USA by Olga Chemokhud Doty.

Limited Edition Prints offered in the USA courtesy of "Marina DeCo Art, LLC" (MDeCoArt.com).

Many people see "energy" in the artwork. Others see it as being spiritual, religious or therapeutic. That's one of the great things about abstract art. People see different things in it and enjoy talking about it. Scott sees the artwork as being a celebration of imagination and the human spirit. People frequently tell him that they see other artwork and life in new ways after seeing his work. It gets people to think "outside the box."

"The most exiting artwork, in my opinion, is artwork that compels the viewer to participate in it. That is why I love abstract art."
"My work is influenced by my early interest in math and science. Many of my pieces include geometrical forms and a sense of precision that bridges fine art and design. I love color, patterns and forms that, when combined together, take on a life of their own. The artwork communicates to others and appears to touch them in a deep, personal and spiritual way."
Scott J. Menaul

Scott J. Menaul has been commissioned to create 70 pieces of his captivating abstract artwork for St. Petersburg's (Florida) most fascinating architectural addition, Signature Place.
